Safeguarding in Bognor Regis & Slindon parish

The welfare and safeguarding of our children and vulnerable adults is a matter of concern for us all. Our parish is committed to the care of all our parishioners.

The role of the Diocesan Safeguarding Office is to assist parishes in their work with vulnerable groups to ensure a safe environment for all concerned. It is also the point of contact for all allegations of abuse of children or adults at risk in the diocese and offers assistance and advice to survivors and victims of abuse.
The welfare and safeguarding of our children and vulnerable adults is a matter of concern for us all. Our parish is committed to the care of all our parishioners. If you have any concerns or questions about safeguarding issues please contact Liz Bedford in confidence. In the case of an emergency or where there is an immediate danger or risk of harm please call 999.

SAFER RECRUITMENT OF VOLUNTEERS WITHIN THE PARISH
All Volunteers who work with vulnerable groups must be safely recruited according to National Procedures produced by The Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS). These procedures apply to all Dioceses in England and Wales.
Safer Recruitment means that all volunteers who work with vulnerable groups must:
  1. Complete an Application Form which includes the supply of two references
  2. Complete a Safeguarding Self Declaration Form in which any past convictions, cautions or involvement in care proceedings must be declared
Above forms available via Diocesan web site Safeguarding or from Parish Rep
  1. Complete a Disclosure & Barring Service Application which will be sent out by the Safeguarding Office
  2. Meet with the Parish Rep to have the back of the DBS and ID Forms completed and three original ID documents seen and photocopied

We would recommend that anyone working as a volunteer in our Parish completes the Application form and supplies two referees who are not involved in the volunteering role.
