Easter 2024
There is loads going on to mark and celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, and you are invited to everything noted below.
Wednesday 27th March
Chrism Mass, Arundel Cathedral, 6pm The priests of the Diocese renew the commitments they made at Ordination, and the Bishop blesses and consecrates the oils used in the celebration of the Sacraments during the coming year. |
Thursday 28th March
Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Our Lady of Sorrows, 8pm Celebrating the gifts of the eucharist and priesthood, and remembering the Lord’s command to serve. This Mass includes the washing of feet of 12 parishioners by Fr Chris. We remember Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane by watching before the Blessed Sacrament. Stay for a while or come back to pray – until midnight and concluding with Night Prayer. |
Good Friday - 29th March
Office of Readings and Morning Prayer, Our Lady of Sorrows, 8am Begin Good Friday with a reflection on Jesus’ passion and death with psalms and readings. Walk of Witness from Bognor Regis Methodist Church to Our Lady of Sorrows, 10am: Join our Christian brothers and sisters from across the town. Our Walk of Witness begins at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10am, will proceed along the High Street, pausing for prayer and reflection led by the Salvation Army at the junction with London Road, and then continue to Bognor Methodist Church for a short service, which will be followed by refreshments. |
3:00pm Celebration of the Lord’s Passion
A prayerful meditation on the sacrifice of Christ; the veneration of the Cross can be made with a bow of the head, or a touch, or a kiss Children’s ministry starts at 2.45pm in the Parish Centre. Drop your little ones off, and then feel free to head over to church. They'll have a fun filled hour of activities aimed to help them explore the Easter story, and will join you just over half way through the service. |
Saturday 30th March
Office of Readings and Morning Prayer, Our Lady of Sorrows, 10am. We pray the Prayer of the Church, with hymns, psalms and readings, waiting in hope for the resurrection. Easter Vigil, Our Lady of Sorrows, 8pm Celebrate the resurrection, beginning with the blessing of the Easter fire in the car park, following Jesus, symbolised in the Easter candle, into the Church. We are invited to share his new life as we share in the light of the Easter candle and renew the promises made at our baptism. |
Sunday 31st March
Mass of Easter Sunday, Our Lady of Sorrows, 9am and 11am Come to share the joy of the risen Christ with parishioners and visitors by coming together for the celebration of Mass, and by being sent out to live the new life of Christ, sharing the unconquerable love of God with family and friends, and all those we meet. This day is the heart of all our celebrations which invite us to ‘breathe in holiness, and breathe out mission’. |
