Children's activities during Mass
Our children are also called to know and love Jesus and to share that love with their family and friends. We recognise and value the efforts parents make to share their faith with their children and we welcome families with children and babies to our parish. On Sunday mornings at 10.00 in Our Lady of Sorrows church (Bognor) and at 11.00 in St Antony’s (Rose Green) the Masses are celebrated with families with young children in mind. Families choose these Masses for many reasons:
LITTLE FISHES PRESCHOOL STREAM
For babies and children from birth up until year 1, this is a space for young ones to go with at least one parent where they explore themes in the Bible, learn about Saints, and prayers. All done through singing and craft. It’s for young ones so it’s completely fine to dip in and out, and to make noise. This happens during the first part of Mass (the Liturgy of the Word), and we go back at the Offertory.
The children are invited to go at the start of Mass. So when you hear the celebrant calling for Little Fishes that’s your cue to go.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
For children in years 2 - 5, a Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered during the Sunday Mass. Children process from the Mass after the Introductory Rites with the Little Fishes and go to a separate space and come back at the Offertory. The Children’s Liturgy team present the Bible readings in a way children can understand, normally through an activity. Children can attend this unaccompanied.
For young children, it can be hard to concentrate on the second part of the Mass (Liturgy of the Eucharist). To help young ones focus on what’s going on at church activity bag packs are at the doors containing coloring and puzzle sheets, stickers, and Bible storybooks. Help yourself!
All the Children’s Liturgy team are DBS checked.
