1910
The church was extended in 1955 creating the existing Sanctuary, The Lady Chapel
To the left and the Sacristy which adjoins the Sanctuary behind the High Altar to the
Right. Hoarding was erected to enable the building work to continue without too much
disturbance. Parishioners, and holiday-makers, were encouraged
To buy a brick for 2/6d (12.5p). Each brick bought was signed.
When the wall wall behind the High Altar was demolished, so
were the original paintings.
                                   Other Changes
The High Altar is no longer used except to house the Tabernacle.
It was replaced first by a wooden Altar and then by a marble Altar
Is what you will see today.  The stone pulpit was replaced, firstly by
two wooden Ambos and then by a marble Ambo used today.
The stone font in the ‘old’ Baptistry has been replaced by the
marble font located in the ‘new’ Baptistry on the left hand side of
the church. The glass screen behind the pews was erected in the
mid 1980’s. Originally there were four confessionals, now there are
only two.
